Procyon lotor - The North American raccoon is found throughout the United States and Southern Canada. Although their natural environments are woodlands with ponds and streams, raccoons are highly resourceful animals and have extended their range to include mountainous regions and coastal areas. They have also taken advantage of the urban developments created by humans. The most prominent feature of the raccoon is the dark masking around the eyes. This feature has contributed to the raccoon’s mischievous reputation.
