Secretary Bird - Sudan

Sagittarius serpentarius - Secretary birds are easily recognized; they have the head of an eagle and the long legs and rounded wings of a crane. The height of a secretary bird is between 90 to 140 centimeters, making it the tallest of the raptor species. The secretary bird has an unusual approach in capturing prey. Predatory birds normally rely on flight to swoop down on their victim. The secretary bird is a terrestrial hunter; it prefers walking from one area to another in search of food.

The Nubian pyramids of Sudan were built during an era when various Kushite kingdoms reigned over the area. Approximately 250 pyramids were constructed at three main sites: el-Kurru, Nuri, and Meroë. These pyramids, similar to those of Egypt, were used as royal burial chambers. The Kushite pyramids were small, averaging 13.5 meters in height. The Nubian pyramids are not known for their height, but they did achieve recognition for the steep angles and the solid masonry of their projects.
